TUPELO, Miss. — Last Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that a near-total abortion ban can soon take effect, making abortions illegal and punishable by a felony charge. Although Planned Parenthood challenged the law in court, the Supreme Court ordered in a 4-2 decision for the law to take effect. The opinion read, “We conclude that [the law] does not create a right to, or otherwise provide independent statutory authority for, an abortion that repeals or restricts [the law], but rather is predicated entirely on the existence of a federal constitutional right to an abortion since disclaimed by Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.”
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the Government Affairs Affiliate of the American Family Association, applauds the Arizona Supreme Court for protecting the rights of the unborn as the 1864 law serves as a wake-up call for other states to do the same.
“AFA Action commends Arizona Supreme Court for upholding the 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions,” says Wildmon. “This ruling demonstrates a commitment to the protection of life at the most vulnerable stage. This ruling also serves as a wake-up call to politicians who claim to be pro-life but in actuality are very much in favor of abortion. Abortion is murder. There’s no denying it. This travesty is wreaking havoc on the moral fabric of our nation. The horror stories are everywhere. We must continue to educate the public on this issue. Every baby is created in the image of God and deserving of protection. Each state must continue to work toward safeguarding the rights of each baby in the womb.”
