History

General Header Background

In 1977, Don Wildmon founded American Family Association (AFA). Since then, AFA has served as a firewall between biblical values and those who seek to destroy America and the principles on which she was founded. This firewall was established and is reinforced by the mission of AFA, which is to inform, equip, and activate individuals and families to transform American culture and to give aid to the church, here and abroad, in its calling to fulfill the Great Commission.

In 2006, AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of AFA, was formed with the goal of advancing godly values in government. Today, the mission of AFA Action is to inform and mobilize voters and government officials to align policy with biblical and constitutional principles.

Around 2009, a fellow Christian named Richard Ford contacted Don Wildmon about the possibility of creating and developing an online voter guide for Christians to use at the ballot box.

Following Wildmon’s agreement to work with Ford, AFA Action began partnering with iVoterGuide to promote this vital tool to America’s electorate. In fact, promoting iVoterGuide has been the primary focus of AFA Action each election cycle.

iVoterGuide is known for its accuracy and integrity in researching and evaluating candidates on the ballot. It impacts elections by equipping Christians to vote wisely and to be good stewards of their citizenship. The core issues that drive the research and scoring of candidates are right to life, religious liberty, national defense, health care, the economy, and border security.

In 2021, the executive leaders and boards of directors of iVoterGuide and AFA Action were convicted that a deeper partnership was necessary between the two organizations. In late 2021, it was announced that AFA Action was acquiring iVoterGuide. This acquisition allowed AFA Action to rapidly expand the reach of iVoterGuide while simultaneously maintaining its quality and focus.

Three divisions exist under AFA Action: Center for Government Renewal, iVoterGuide, and Center for Judicial Renewal.

Today, AFA Action is moving forward stronger than ever before with the vision of seeing a society of citizens successfully preserving life, liberty, and the ability to pursue happiness.
