TUPELO, Miss. — The Biden administration recently announced a new ruling that would directly affect potential Christian adoptive and foster parents. The “Safe and Appropriate Foster Care Placement Requirements” would require foster parents to “utilize the child’s identified pronouns, chosen name, and allow the child to dress in an age-appropriate manner that the child believes reflects their self-identified gender identity and expression.” Anyone who adheres to traditional Christian values would be deemed “unsafe” for adopting or fostering children, leaving thousands of children unplaced in the foster care system.
In response to the proposed rule, attorney generals from 19 states wrote a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, urging the Biden administration to reverse course because it would effectively disqualify Christian families from serving as foster parents, putting an additional strain on an already over-burdened foster care system nationwide. On any given day, over 391,000 children are living in the U.S. foster care system and the number has been rising.
“If Biden’s proposed rule goes into effect, thousands of Christian couples wishing to serve as foster parents will become ineligible because of their religious faith,” said Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the government affairs affiliate of the American Family Association. “America was built on Judeo-Christian ideals, but now our government is trying to oust people of faith from the foster care process. We cannot allow this to continue — Christians need to make a stand and fight back. I urge believers to compel their own state attorney general to fight back against this disgraceful ruling using all legal means available. If we don’t stand up to these attacks on Christianity now and defend religious freedom, then America will be unrecognizable in future decades.”
