TUPELO, Miss. — The Institute for Family Studies recently published a report indicating the number of children living in a two-parent household has reached the highest level since 1990. The report revealed that in 2023, 71.1% of children under 18 lived with both parents, while 25.1% lived with one parent and 3.8% lived with neither parent.
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the government affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, expressed the overall benefit of being a part of a two-parent family has on American culture and society.
“Marriage rates have been on the decline for several decades and it is refreshing to see the number of children living with both parents back on the rise again,” said Walker. “Marriage and family have suffered tremendously in recent history, and I believe in order to see our culture trend in the right direction we’re going to have to see the continued increase of children in two-parent households. Despite all of the political and economic uncertainty today, there’s one institution that is guaranteed to benefit society and that is the family. We need to get back to a place where more and more children have a mom and dad at home.”
