TUPELO, Miss.— Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and Facebook founder, recently admitted in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee that the Biden administration pressured his platforms to censor information related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Zuckerberg also addressed the Hunter Biden laptop controversy and admitted that he regrets the decision to censor content on his platforms stating, “I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken. I feel strongly we should not compromise our content standards and we're ready to push back if something like this happens again.”
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association commented on Zuckerberg’s letter, stating that the media censorship that has taken place under the Biden administration has become a threat to Americans’ First Amendment rights.
“Mark Zuckerberg’s recent admission that the Biden administration pressured Facebook and Instagram to censor COVID-related content is a reminder of the growing threat to free speech in America,” says Wildmon. “This blatant government overreach, which also targeted the Hunter Biden laptop story, reveals a disturbing pattern of silencing and de-platforming dissent to control the narrative. We believe in the foundational principles of freedom and transparency rooted in the First Amendment. These principles are under direct attack when the government coordinates with tech giants to suppress the truth. Americans must be aware of these threats and stand firm in defending our constitutional rights against any form of speech suppression by the government.”
