Surprising study shows Gen Z is more in favor of marriage than millennials

TUPELO, Miss. — The Times Generation Z study recently reported that Gen Z has more traditional and conservative beliefs than Millennials when it comes to marriage. The research indicates that “only a fifth of 18 to 27-year-olds believed that marriage was ‘irrelevant,’ while a third thought it’s better for a couple to be married before having children.”

Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, is hopeful that Gen Z’s positive views on marriage become a reflection of the nation’s path toward returning to its Biblical grassroots.

“It’s no surprise that Gen Z is rejecting the failed social experiments of the past few decades,” said Wildmon. “But this shift cannot be driven by economic survival alone — marriage is more than just a smart economic decision; it’s God’s design for family and society. The breakdown of marriage over the past decades has not just weakened families; it has eroded the moral foundation of our nation. One of the greatest tragedies for a society is to have children raised in broken homes where the mother, father or both are missing. The statistics bear this out when it comes to education and economic outcomes and even crime rates. It is important to remember that marriage is not just good for society — it’s God’s perfect design. A strong nation starts with strong families, and strong families begin when we remember whose idea it was to begin with. Our nation must continue this positive trend!”
