TUPELO, Miss. — Recently, sixth graders at Westland Middle School in Bethesda, Maryland, sat through a 12-slide presentation for “Transgender Awareness Week” that told them a person’s gender is “who they feel they are,” offered “advice for coming out,” and listed “Eight tips for being nonbinary.”
According to Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, the incident is just the latest example of radical ideology spreading through public schools, a growing crisis that must be addressed.
“A school presentation telling middle school students how to bind their bodies and give ‘coming out advice’ is a disturbing sign of just how far harmful ideology has invaded the classroom,” said Wildmon. “These are children — kids who should be learning science and history, not coached on how to reject their own biology. Lessons that encourage secrecy from parents only deepen the harm. No school has the authority to erode a child’s innocence or a parent’s authority. This is a breach of trust that demands accountability.”
