TUPELO, Miss. — A new study conducted by Dr. George Barna reported that 104 million people of faith are not expected to vote in the upcoming General Election, including 41 million Christians. “The surveys also revealed that large numbers of Christian churches have distanced themselves from the election, refusing to even encourage congregants to vote and avoiding teaching related to many of the key social issues that will determine which candidates people will support,” stated Barna. Some of the reasons why Christians are choosing to not head to the polls include a lack of interest in politics, a dislike for the major party candidates, the belief that their vote will not have an impact, and the idea that the results of the election will be manipulated.
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, is not only urging Christians to fulfill their God-given right to vote, but also reminding believers of the impact that their vote has on future generations.
“It’s alarming that 41 million Christians are choosing not to vote this election,” says Wildmon. “When we neglect our duty to engage culture and government, we allow those who oppose biblical values to shape our nation’s future. By not voting, we dishonor the countless sacrifices made to secure the very freedoms that lives were lost to protect. Our right to vote wasn’t gained easily, and to neglect it now is to truly display poor stewardship. It is critical that everyone vote and exercise good stewardship over our nation. Now is the time for Christians to step up and make their voices heard so that future generations can enjoy the same freedom and prosperity as generations past.”
