TUPELO, Miss. — AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, has released new research that shows how abortion providers are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in Medicaid funding that could instead be going to vulnerable individuals waiting for care. The report is titled “Displacing the Disabled: How Medicaid funds abortion providers and leaves disabled kids waiting,” and can be found here.

“For years, Americans have been forced to pay higher taxes to fund billion-dollar abortion providers taking advantage of state Medicaid programs,” said Dr. Jameson Taylor, director of the Center for Government Renewal for AFA Action. “Medicaid is meant to serve disabled children and other vulnerable individuals. In about 40 states, these people are waiting for services while Big Abortion cashes in. Medicaid needs to be protected from abortion providers.”

Nationwide, about 700,000 truly needy people languish on Medicaid waiting lists. AFA Action’s report compares state-by-state funding for abortion providers with Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiting lists. The HCBS program is designed to provide supplemental, but often highly needed, services to vulnerable groups. In about 40 states, these vulnerable patients cannot get the care they need and are placed on waiting lists.

“The Senate version of the One Big Beautiful Bill includes strong language aimed at getting Medicaid back to its core mission of serving the disabled and poor families. These reforms include removing ineligible individuals and fraudsters, encouraging able-bodied adults to work or go to school, and eliminating funding for Big Box abortion providers. Without these reforms, Medicaid will be crippled. Already, Medicaid spending is busting state budgets, diverting money from K-12 education, safe roads and bridges, and from fire departments and public safety. It’s time to stop billion-dollar abortion providers from getting funding that could be helping disabled kids waiting for wheelchairs and feeding tubes.

“Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Speaker Mike Johnson need to stand strong and stop abortion provider funding in the One Big Beautiful Bill,” concluded Taylor.
