TUPELO, Miss. — Obama-appointed federal judge Indira Ralwani recently continued a temporary restraining order blocking a new provision that would remove Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. The Massachusetts district judge ruled that a provision of the Reconciliation Act could not be enforced. The provision would prevent Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates from receiving Medicaid reimbursements, including receiving over $800,000 in Medicaid reimbursements in 2023.
“We’re just days past abortion providers finally being cut off from taxpayer funding, and an Obama-appointed judge is running interference for Planned Parenthood,” said Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association. “This cannot be mistaken for justice; this is radical judicial activism in a black robe. The abortion industry is clinging to any power it can, now with the help of courts that care more about politics than preborn lives. If we’ve learned anything this week, wins like this are fragile without a congressional backbone. We need congressional leaders who will make these changes permanent, and voters who will hold them to it.”
