‘If the Ten Commandments can guide the highest court in the land, they should not be deemed unfit for our classrooms,’ says AFA Action CEO Walker Wildmon
TUPELO, Miss. — U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, blocked the state’s law that would have mandated all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. He stated that the law is “unconstitutional on its face” and goes against the First Amendment. Had the law been enacted, every public classroom, from kindergarten to the university level, would be required to display the Ten Commandments and the four-paragraph “context statement” relaying how the Ten Commandments “were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.”
With the historical significance the Ten Commandments hold on the nation’s biblical foundation, AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, is standing strong to defend America’s Christian roots.
“It is deeply troubling that a federal judge has blocked Louisiana's law requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in public classrooms,” says AFA Action CEO Walker Wildmon. “These principles are etched into the very walls of the Supreme Court and other federal buildings as a testament to their role in shaping American law and governance. Yet, in a tragic display of judicial activism, the court is attempting to erase this important historical document from public education. AFA Action will continue to stand firm in defending our Judeo-Christian values and push back against the efforts to rewrite our history and marginalize faith in the public square. If the Ten Commandments can guide the highest court in the land, they should not be deemed unfit for our classrooms.”
