AFA Action CEO: ‘In seven other states, voters were misled by deceptive, emotion-driven language designed to hide the true evil and extremity of these measures, which strip nearly all protections for unborn babies’
TUPELO, Miss. — This past election, abortion was among the top issues for voters, and was on the ballot in 10 states. Among these states, only Florida, South Dakota and Nebraska voters upheld pro-life policies, while voters in Missouri legalized abortion up until fetal viability, which has no exact defined time frame. Arizona, Colorado, Maryland and Montana also passed abortion rights.
For Christians and pro-life advocates across the nation, seeing more states allow abortion serves as a call to bring an end to state abortion amendments, ensuring that the unborn are protected throughout the country.
“Out of 10 states that faced radical pro-abortion amendments on the ballot, only Florida, South Dakota and Nebraska stood firm, rejecting initiatives that would allow abortions up to birth,” said Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association. “In seven other states, voters were misled by deceptive, emotion-driven language designed to hide the true evil and extremity of these measures, which strip nearly all protections for unborn babies. The Left’s abuse of the amendment process and use of intentionally vague wording are clear attempts to circumvent the will of Americans. We must bring an end to this abuse of state amendment processes by removing these processes altogether or increasing the threshold to 60% for ballot initiatives. We applaud Florida, South Dakota and Nebraska for protecting life and resisting intense pressure, even while being outspent by pro-abortion groups at a staggering rate of 10 to one.”
