TUPELO, Miss. — A CVS pharmacy employee was recently fired from her job as CVS refused to allow her a religious exemption to provide contraceptives. Starting in August 2021, CVS adopted a new policy that denies “all such religious accommodations without considering the particular circumstances of the employee requesting the accommodation, including to determine whether that employee could be accommodated without undue hardship.” First Liberty Institute Senior Counsel, Stephanie Taub said, “CVS is sending a message that religious health care workers are not welcome and need not apply.”
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the government affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, spoke out on this lawsuit, calling for the right to religious freedom in the workplace.
“Religious freedom and freedom of conscience have been central to what it means to be American from the beginning of our nation’s founding and even in the years and decades prior,” said Wildmon. “When the government or in this case companies fail to offer reasonable accommodations for people of faith they are denying the constitutional protections that are set forth in the Constitution. We must return to a place in our country where people of faith aren’t forced to leave their beliefs at home or at the door to their workplace because companies fail to value religious freedom.”
