TUPELO, Miss. — A Colorado family is sounding the alarm after their 11-year-old daughter was placed in the same hotel room with a biologically male student identifying as female during a school trip to Washington, D.C. While the school eventually moved her to another room, administrators allegedly instructed her to keep quiet regarding the reason for the change, a directive the family says reflects a wider pattern of hiding gender-related policies from parents.
According to Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, the incident exposes a growing crisis in public schools.
“This is what happens when schools put gender ideology ahead of basic safety and parental authority. Parents deserve to know who their children are rooming with, and no school district has the right to keep them in the dark,” Wildmon added. “Jefferson County’s secrecy is no accident — it’s a policy choice. When districts hide gender accommodations from parents, they’re not protecting kids; they’re betraying them. Incidents like this prove exactly why parents must have full visibility into overnight policies, bathroom and locker room rules, and every other decision that impacts their children’s privacy and safety. AFA Action will continue to support policies nationwide that restore transparency, uphold biological reality, and protect the rights of parents to make decisions about the safety and well-being of their children.”
