TUPELO, Miss. — After calling for Supreme Court reform, President Biden outlined a plan that suggests term limits and a code of ethics for Supreme Court justices, ensuring that no president is above the law. “The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision on July 1 to grant presidents broad immunity from prosecution for crimes they commit in office means there are virtually no limits on what a president can do,” stated Biden.
According to Christian Post, “Biden’s first proposal involves a constitutional amendment titled the ‘No One Is Above The Law Amendment’ that ‘would make clear that there is no immunity for crimes a former president committed while in office.’ His second reform would impose ‘a system in which the president would appoint a justice every two years to spend 18 years in active service on the Supreme Court.’”
“President Biden’s proposal to impose term limits on Supreme Court justices is a direct and dangerous assault on the independence of our judiciary and is driven purely by politics,” says Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association. “This unprecedented move was brought about because President Biden has repeatedly lost at the Supreme Court because some of his key campaign promises from 2020 were blatantly unconstitutional.
“This decision by President Biden, who is now a lame-duck president, threatens to undermine the Court’s ability to function free from political pressures, a cornerstone of our constitutional republic. AFA Action’s Center for Judicial Renewal (CJR) is committed to defending the integrity of the courts and ensuring that judges uphold the original intent of the Constitution. We stand firmly against any attempts to politicize the Supreme Court and erode the essential checks and balances that safeguard our freedoms.”
