TUPELO, Miss.  AFA Action’s Center for Judicial Renewal (CJR) has launched a new social media campaign keeping citizens informed on all pending federal judicial nominees. A recent article in CNN has alleged that “Trump’s more conventional judicial nominees could give Alito and Thomas greater confidence to retire.” However, CJR’s research indicates otherwise.

CJR is researching all pending federal judicial nominees and ranking them in the following descending categories of: (1) priority confirm, (2) confirm, down to the lowest rankings of (3) no position, (4) stop, and (5) priority stop. Thus far, CJR has assigned a ranking of “priority confirm” to two nominees, “confirm” to four nominees, and “no position” to eight nominees, indicating that the wide majority of judicial nominees thus far did not have a substantial enough record to make a judgment on whether they are likely to contribute to restoring the Judiciary to its proper role of deciding cases under the law rather than legislating from the bench.

In other words, eight of 14 lack a quality record, and 12 out of 14 lack a stellar record. It is therefore unlikely that Justice Alito or Justice Thomas would seek retirement soon, given the overall quality of the records of recent judicial nominees. Though CJR hopes Justice Alito and Justice Thomas will serve on the bench for as long as possible, when the time for retirement comes, the quality of their prospective replacements should be demonstrably excellent. CJR’s new campaign will be sharing media on all pending judicial nominees, specifying each pending nominee’s CJR ranking as well as providing a link to the research CJR has performed on each nominee.

Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, commented on CJR’s pending nominee research, remarking on the disappointing overall quality of judicial nominees thus far.

“While some of President Trump’s judicial nominees have met the constitutionalist standard, the majority have lacked a quality record, especially in comparison to the distinguished records of Justice Thomas and Justice Alito,” said Wildmon. “We hope these two heroes serve for many more years, and it is imperative that when one of these incredible constitutionalists retires, President Trump and the Senate place only the best of the best on our highest court. CJR’s work on all pending federal judicial nominees is an essential project for identifying, evaluating and nominating the best of the best for the Supreme Court and our lower courts.”
