TUPELO, Miss. — In just six weeks, Americans across the nation will be headed to the polls for the 2026 midterm elections. For conservatives this November, election security might be the biggest and most consequential fight, as proof of citizenship and identification to vote is an 80-20 issue for Americans, and conservatives are championing to make it happen.
The requirement for voter ID and proof of citizenship for voter registration can be upheld through the SAVE Act, which has passed the U.S. House multiple times, but failed in the Senate. Now, state officials are not waiting around for the Senate to act and are taking matters into their own hands by passing their own versions of the SAVE Act. According to the Daily Signal, “A charge led by the State Freedom Caucus Network, a group of state elected conservatives, is advancing legislation in Arizona, South Dakota, and Wyoming, with more to come.”
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, applauds state legislatures for stepping up to give Americans elections they can trust and protecting the integrity of the nation’s elections.
“The American people overwhelmingly agree that our elections should be secure, and that only American citizens should be allowed to vote in American elections,” Wildmon said. “The House has acted on the SAVE Act, but the Senate has repeatedly failed to get it across the finish line. States should not have to wait on Washington to protect the integrity of their elections. State leaders across the country are stepping up, advancing voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements using every tool available to safeguard the ballot. If Washington refuses to act, states must lead. The American people deserve elections they can trust.”
