TUPELO, Miss. — The evolution of AI technology is moving at the speed of light, but these advances can bring more danger than good, especially to young people. Experts have revealed that the latest AI-powered chatbot technology can respond with alarming suggestions, including violence, ideas for self-harm and sexually explicit conversations. “72 percent of America’s teenagers say they have used chatbots as companions,” according to Common Sense Media, with almost one in eight having sought emotional or mental health support.
AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, has worked firsthand with government leaders to protect young people’s safety online, and will continue to expose Big Tech companies that ignore the dangers of AI.
“AI Chatbots are giving kids step-by-step instructions on how to kill themselves, murder their parents, and even engage in explicit sexual relationships with digital characters,” said AFA Action CEO Walker Wildmon. “This isn’t some glitch in the system — it’s evil dressed in code. Every child pulled into this darkness proves that Big Tech has traded morality for money. When children die because corporations refuse to police their own creations, that is blood on Big Tech’s hands. AFA Action has been exposing tech giants complicit in child exploitation, opposing platforms like Roblox that endanger kids, and filing briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court to defend laws keeping pornography out of children’s hands. This is more than a tech issue — it’s a societal crisis, and parents deserve leaders willing to stand up to Silicon Valley’s corruption before more kids are lost.”
