Core Conversations: Will your senator stand for election integrity?

We want secure elections, but are we willing to do what it takes to make that happen?

This week on At the Core, I sat down with Cleta Mitchell of the Conservative Partnership Institute to unpack the SAVE America Act – a federal bill that would do something shockingly simple: require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and require photo ID to vote. It’s already passed the House, and now it’s time for the Senate to act.

But here’s the catch: Senate leadership is hiding behind a fake filibuster. They’re not debating. They’re not voting. They’re avoiding hard work and calling it “procedure.”

Cleta reminded us that the Constitution gives Congress the authority to set standards for federal elections. States can run their local contests however they want. But when it comes to electing federal leaders, every American should expect one standard: only American citizens vote.

That’s why we’re calling on the Senate – specifically, Republican leadership – to stop delaying and start deliberating. A real filibuster means standing up, speaking out, and forcing a vote.

We’re down to just a few holdouts, and your senator could be one of them. Now is the time to urge the U.S. Senate to pass the SAVE America Act.
