We hear a lot of noise about normalizing marijuana – especially under the misleading label of “medical” marijuana. But on a recent episode of At the Core, I invited Heritage Foundation’s Paul Larkin to cut through the smoke and give us the facts.
Larkin made one thing clear: today’s marijuana is nothing like what you saw in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s 10 times more potent – and it’s creating long-term damage to brains, hearts, and even unborn children.
Larkin said it best when he said that “medical marijuana is an oxymoron. No legitimate doctor prescribes something you smoke until you ‘feel good.’ That’s not medicine. That’s self-medication.”
And it’s not just a health issue – it’s a cultural and moral one too. As I shared during the show, I’ve seen firsthand how my own state of Mississippi has become the Wild West of marijuana use. People light up in public spaces – even school parking lots – with little to no enforcement. When law and morality break down, chaos rushes in.
“We’ve lost the idea that people should be willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the nation,” Larkin concluded. “Instead, it’s all about self-gratification.”
This isn’t about a harmless high – it’s about a culture in decline, numbing itself while ignoring the cost.
