Dear Lexie,
Recently on At the Core, I talked about a major move inside the Department of Justice that deserves more attention.
President Trump has appointed Colin McDonald to focus specifically on fraud in federal government programs – and this is much needed.
According to McDonald, conservative estimates put fraud against taxpayers at roughly $230 billion every year. That does not even include improper payments, which can add another $150 to $180 billion annually.
That means we could be losing up to $500 billion dollars every year to fraud, deceit, fake applications, shell corporations, fake daycares, fake schools, and money going to people who should not be receiving it.
I don’t know about you, but I think there is a lot we can do with $500 billion – including not adding it to our national deficit.
This is taxpayer money. Americans work hard, file their taxes, and do their civic duty. It should not be that those dollars are immediately exploited by people who see government programs as an easy avenue to get rich quick.
So, kudos to President Trump, Vice President Vance, and the Department of Justice for putting a focus on this. Fraud is happening across the map, and it will take a serious response to stop it.

Sincerely,
