What happens when a school decides it knows better than you do about your own child?

In Massachusetts, the state takes your child.

On a recent episode of At the Core, I shared the story of Joseph and Arlene Kutzko, a devout Catholic couple whose teenage daughter was socially transitioned to being treated as a boy at her public high school, according to the family, without their knowledge or permission. When the Kutzkos, because of their faith, would not affirm their daughter as a boy, the school reported them to the Department of Children and Families.

In December 2024, the state removed their daughter from their home. They have not spoken to her since that time. DCF has assumed guardianship, and a restraining order keeps her mother, father, and older brother away from her. Only a judge’s temporary order has stopped the state from giving her high doses of testosterone. Their next court date is October 29.

Read that again. These parents did not harm their daughter. They simply refused to deny the truth about how God made her. And for that, the government treated them as abusers.

If you’ve been told for years that warnings like this were overblown – that this could never happen in America – here is your answer. It is happening. And the ideology behind it doesn’t stay in Massachusetts.

On the same episode, I played a clip of James Talarico, now running for the U.S. Senate in Texas, telling a legislative committee that parents who won’t affirm their child’s gender identity are acting in a way that is “abusive, for sure,” and that ruling it out as abuse would be “dangerous.” That is the same thinking that took the Kutzkos’ daughter from them.

We can’t control what every politician believes. But we can control who holds power. This November, we have the opportunity to cast our vote to reject leaders who would label loving parents as child abusers. If we sit on our hands, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

Parental rights don’t come from a school counselor or a state agency. They come from God. It’s time we vote like we believe it.
