Last week on At the Core, I spoke with Phillip Jauregui, senior counsel at AFA Action and director of our Center for Judicial Renewal. The topic? President Trump’s judicial nominations – and why conservatives need to be paying attention right now.
Here's the reality: We started with about 46 federal judicial vacancies. President Trump has made 15 nominations, and only 5 have been confirmed. Of the rest, 5 are stuck in committee, and 5 are waiting on the Senate floor.
The quality of the nominees has been a concern. As Phillip explained, many don’t have strong records we can evaluate – and only one has received our “priority confirm” designation: Judge Jordan Pratt of Florida. The rest? Not enough info or just plain average.
Why does this matter?
Because judges are for life. And as Phillip pointed out, this is a pivotal moment. Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, are slow-walking confirmations, using procedural stall tactics to delay progress – possibly even demanding $2 billion in funding to lift their blockade.
Meanwhile, the Senate is on recess for a month. With so many nominations still pending, time is running out. This could be the Left’s long game: run out of time on the clock and weaken the judiciary for the next generation.
Phillip offered a strong challenge: It’s time for Republicans to break the filibuster logjam – if not abolish it, then grind it down. Cancel vacations, work weekends, and force the votes. If they don’t, we’ll be right back where we were before Trump’s presidency.
We need more bold judges who uphold the Constitution and biblical values. That’s why AFA Action and our Center for Judicial Renewal are researching every single nominee and giving you the facts.
