American Family Association Action (AFA Action), is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to advancing biblical, family values in society and government by educating and influencing public policy. AFA Action is also the Governmental Affairs Affiliate of American Family Association (AFA).
We support proactive laws that protect the right of Christians to practice their faith in the workplace and the public square. In particular, we reject the notion that Christian pastors, ministers, congregations, and business owners should be forced to accommodate or participate in activities, such as same-sex ceremonies as a pretense for marriage, that violate their sincerely held religious beliefs.
Abortion is the intentional destruction of innocent human life by other humans. We believe it is in the interest of our government to uphold the value of human life by ensuring legal protection from conception to natural death. Therefore, we oppose any exceptions to pro-life laws, including exceptions for rape, incest, and fetal deformity. We are also opposed to all assaults on life that inhibit implantation of the fertilized egg (abortifacient contraception) or treat the fertilized egg as an object of scientific or medical manipulation.
We believe marriage is the best anti-poverty, anti-crime, pro-health institution in existence. The proper exercise of human sexuality occurs within a lifelong marriage union between one man and one woman. AFA Action is opposed to sexual activity outside of marriage. AFA Action is also opposed to any form of so-called “marriage” or civil union that strays from God’s design. We believe the only marriage union that should be recognized by the state is the union between one man and one woman. This is not only because of the inherently sinful and disordered nature of sexual acts outside of God’s design, but also because such deviation grants formal recognition to a relationship that is not, in fact, a marriage.
AFA Action is opposed to pornography in all its forms. Contrary to recent U.S. Supreme Court opinions, AFA Action does not believe the right to free speech properly understood in the Constitution encompasses the production and distribution of sexually explicit material. AFA Action opposes the use of taxpayer funds to purchase or allow access to pornography in public libraries and schools.
The most prosperous and stable family environment occurs when a father, mother, and children are living together and embracing God’s design for family. A mother and father should exercise responsible parenting by providing for and supporting each other and their children. Such support includes developing children emotionally, spiritually, and physically for the betterment of mankind. AFA Action supports governmental policies that encourage God’s design for marriage and family and rejects any attempt by the government to undermine or discourage the biblical family model.
Parents possess a fundamental responsibility and right to raise their children according to biblical values. AFA Action supports policies that empower parents to direct the education of their children and that provide for accountability and transparency in public schools. Both parents also have a right to be informed and to make all health care and medical decisions for their minor children.
Under the U.S. Constitution, each state is sovereign, which means the states have proper authority over significant policy areas such as education, health care, and criminal law. Over time, the states have ceded their power to the federal government. AFA Action believes the states are the laboratories of democracy and should retain maximum constitutional power to decide policy in their communities.
AFA Action supports the placement of judges that hold to a biblical and constitutional view of man and government. Additionally, we believe judges should interpret U.S. and state constitutions and laws according to the original meaning of the drafters.
We believe it should be easy to vote but hard to cheat. Fair and honest elections are the bedrock of a self-governing democracy. To provide election security, AFA Action supports the local control of elections, the use of Voter IDs, and the elimination of the following: ballot drop boxes, unsolicited mail-in/absentee ballots, private funding of elections, and unsecure election software and/or machines that make election fraud difficult to detect, investigate, and prosecute in a timely manner. AFA Action also opposes disenfranchising election methods such as Ranked Choice Voting.
The right to private property is essential to the integrity and well-being of the family and is supported both biblically and constitutionally. Therefore, AFA Action opposes radical environmental and socialist policies that are being used to undermine property rights for individuals, families, and business owners.
The right to keep and bear arms is essential to self-governance and is essential to the defense of one’s person, family, and private property. AFA Action supports the right to self-defense and is committed to supporting judicial nominees and political candidates who believe in a robust application of the Second Amendment.
Parents have a right to pursue whatever educational options work best for their children, whether that be homeschooling, private schools, or community-centered public schools. AFA Action supports programs that enable parents to use their tax dollars to pay directly for their child’s education, even if that education is not administered in an in-person government institutional setting.
Socialized medicine is bad for families because it erodes personal responsibility for healthy lifestyle choices, undermines motivation to voluntarily bear one another’s burdens, limits health care access, leads to worse health care outcomes, and facilitates government control over patients and their health care data. Therefore, AFA Action supports health care reforms that protect the freedom of patients to choose their own provider, protect the conscience rights of doctors and nurses, encourage need-sharing ministries, and protect portable, private health insurance.
Privacy is essential to personal freedom and integrity. AFA Action opposes the aggressive data collection efforts being carried out by government and corporate interests that threaten individual rights in a myriad of ways.
A secure border is essential to any sovereign nation. Globalist forces are using open borders to destabilize the United States by flooding the country with criminals and illegal labor that displace American workers. America already has the most generous legal immigration policies in the world. AFA Action believes we must end illegal immigration, foster wise legal immigration, and secure our borders as actions that uphold the preeminent constitutional mandate of providing for the common defense.
The rise of the administrative state is a grave threat to our republic. Congress and the states have too often relinquished their proper authority to unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats. These bureaucrats regularly use their power to destroy property rights, religious liberty rights, and other basic freedoms. We support returning legislative authority back to Congress and the states and, further, support policies aimed at reducing government regulations, reforming the rule-making process, and eliminating government agencies.
The federal government has long operated without a formal budget, with the inevitable result being overspending, rampant inflation, and massive national debt. AFA Action believes in fiscal responsibility and supports efforts to limit the power and size of the federal government. We also believe states and local governments should exercise responsible stewardship over their own budgets.
