Ask Your Governor to Celebrate the End of Roe

Please join us in asking every governor in America to issue a proclamation commemorating June as Sanctity of Life Month.

Great news! It's a celebration for the millions of unborn children who will get to have a literal birthday now that Roe v. Wade has been reversed.

The celebration began on June 24. That's the day the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe via the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health case – an effort AFA and its government affairs affiliate, AFA Action, were a part of here in Mississippi.

Please join us in asking every governor in America to issue a proclamation commemorating June as Sanctity of Life Month. Already, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) has responded to this invitation in a big way.

On June 28, 2022, Gov. Reeves declared the entire month of June to be Sanctity of Life Month. In part, the governor's proclamation states:

WHEREAS, we have a firm conviction that each life is precious and each individual is created in the image of God, as Psalm 139: 13-14 reads: "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works: my soul knows it very well." With this deep conviction, the State of Mississippi has stood firm, protecting the unborn and fostering a culture of life; and

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi defended the Mississippi Gestational Age Act in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization all the way to the United States Supreme Court. And on June 24, 2022, the United State Supreme Court vindicated Mississippi's argument, overruling Roe and Casey, holding that "the Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision," and

WHEREAS, the 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution reserves to the states and the people powers not explicitly delegated to the federal government.

… I do hereby proclaim June 2022, to be recognized as Sanctity of Life Month.

Dobbs is a huge win for the pro-life movement. But here's something really important to keep in mind. The Dobbs decision is also a win for federalism, the core idea that each state has the authority to make important decisions for its residents. What the courts call "state sovereignty" is the essentially American idea that self-rule and self-responsibility start at the local level. Dobbs is thus a major win for the states. Gov. Reeves' proclamation also says: "With the Dobbs decision … authority [is] now rightly 'return[ed] to the people and their elected representatives.'"

That's why it is so important for each state to celebrate this win. Pro-life governors need to understand that this pro-life win is also a win for states to set their own policies in important areas, whether they be pro-life policies or pro-marriage policies.

And we need your help to spread the word. Please contact and urge your governor to retroactively declare June 2022 Sanctity of Life Month.
