Tell MS Lawmakers to Support Pregnancy Resource Centers
Aren’t you tired of all the fighting among our Mississippi state lawmakers? They’re fighting over tax cuts, they’re fighting over how to spend federal COVID money, they’re even fighting over how big a raise to give public school teachers.
Unfortunately, they’re also fighting over a very important bill that would send a much-needed message to the U.S. Supreme Court. The message is that Mississippi is committed to caring for women facing a crisis pregnancy. And it’s a message that needs to be sent now – before the Court rules on Mississippi’s once-in-a-generation opportunity to overturn Roe v. Wade. The bill is the Pregnancy Resource Act (HB 1685). And it must pass out of conference committee by next Monday, March 28.
We need your help now. Contact and urge Mississippi legislators and demand that they pass HB 1685.
The bill has already passed both chambers, but the Mississippi Senate put language in it to slow down the bill’s progress by sending it to “conference.” This Senate action was unnecessary and shows that the Mississippi Senate is willing to play politics with the Dobbs case.
HB 1685 creates a multimillion-dollar tax credit for donations to Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs). This is a dollar-for-dollar tax credit and not just a deduction. The purpose of the tax credit is to encourage game-changing, life-saving donations to our PRCs, who are going to need additional resources after the Dobbs’ decision. Mississippi has almost 40 Pregnancy Resource Centers, which provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical care and assistance to thousands of families across the state. This tax credit will help PRCs empower more women to choose life in difficult circumstances.
The Pregnancy Resource Act is about protecting the future. It’s about protecting the unborn, but also helping mothers care for their children once they are born. America’s future is pro-life. It has to be because God will not bless a country that allows the death of millions of innocent babies each year.
It’s that simple. And this bill should have been a simple and done-deal for the Mississippi Legislature. But the fight to save America is not going to be simple. It’s not going to be easy. We’re going to need you to keep pushing and praying. And it starts today with the passage of the Pregnancy Resource Act.
Email and then call (601-359-3770) your Mississippi state senator and representative and tell them to stop the political games. Ask them to make sure HB 1685 gets passed now – before the session ends and it’s too late.
