Texas House Needs to Choose Privacy and Safety for Children

Men don't belong in girls' restrooms or dressing rooms.

Men don't belong in girls' restrooms or dressing rooms. So why is Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana) refusing to advance legislation, HB 2899, out of the State Affairs Committee he chairs? Why is he refusing to protect the most vulnerable among us in Texas?
HB 2899 protects the privacy and safety of Texans by stopping all current and future local city ordinances and public school policies that allow biological males to use girls' restrooms, showers, locker rooms or changing rooms.

Governor Abbott has called HB 2899 a thoughtful approach and has urged the legislature to move a bill protecting privacy in bathrooms, stating "will work to get a bill to my desk." But HR2899 is still sitting in the House State Affairs Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Byron Cook. The bill must pass out of his committee before it can be voted on the floor by the full Texas House.
The ACLU and LGBT lobby groups have made defeating this bill their top goal for this session. So far, Rep. Byron Cook's actions indicate he is on the side of liberals by refusing to bring this bill up in committee.
We are entering the final weeks of the legislative session and there is no time for further delay on this issue. If HB 2899 does not quickly pass out of the Calendars Committee and advanced to the House floor for a vote, the clock will run out and HB 2899 will die.
