The Ideal Presidential Candidate

What does an ideal candidate for President look like?  As I thought about it, I pictured someone standing and facing the opposite direction. I was looking at this person from the back which may seem a little strange at first, but then I thought that this was the right perspective. Why? Because that person would be leading, and others would be behind him and encouraging him to stay the course.

What qualities does that person have that are ideal? Besides being a person of moral integrity, I came up with five. The ideal candidate:

  1. Knows the key principles and concepts our country was founded on, and understands these concepts are what made it possible for America to become great, prosperous, powerful, and free.  More importantly, this person is convinced that these concepts and principles are still true today!  Of course, that also means this leader fully believes that there is a God who gave us unalienable rights and who holds individuals and nations to account for their actions.
  2. Decides on policy issues on the basis of those principles and explains and promotes them on that basis and persuades people to support them.
  3. Strategizes to re-implement those great ideas so that we see liberty being restored in our land.
  4. Defends our rights and freedoms and fights against contrary agendas.
  5. Advances legislation or policy diplomatically but manages the political process so that liberty and just causes are actually advanced, not hindered.

You might be thinking “Wow, that is quite a list.”  In today’s world we are so accustomed to unprincipled, spineless politicians that at first you may think I am describing some sort of Superman, but I am not.

At one time this ‘ideal’ candidate was the norm in America though none have ever been perfect or thought exactly the same way.  I believe that there are such men and women out there today who fit this description, or come mighty close to it.

So, what do you think?   How close do each of the current 2016 presidential primary candidates come?  Is there one who, in your opinion, stands out from the crowd?  Who is it, and what do you do now?

Here is what I recommend:

  • Know that you are not insignificant. You can actually make a difference.  The battle will be won by the candidate who gets the most voters to the polls.  Look at the primary in Iowa.  Cruz won because he had a strong grass roots network to get out his voters and Trump did not. Rubio did better than expected because he had boots on the ground. Between Clinton and Sanders, it came down to just a couple of votes resulting in six coin tosses.
  • Inform yourself with the AFA Action Voter Guide. Distinguish between what candidates say and what they do. See how they have voted and where their money comes from. Get the AFA Action Voter Guide and be informed.
  • Register to Vote. For the 2016 election year, make sure you're registered to vote! Only 50% of Christians are registered. Be prepared to vote in both the primary and general elections.
  • Pledge to Vote. Commit to vote in the primary/caucus elections and the general election in November. Between 20-30 million evangelicals did not vote in the 2012 election. An increase in voter turnout of 1-2% among evangelicals could have a huge impact on the outcome of elections, especially if these voters are informed voters

Once you have found the person you believe is truly the best presidential choice, get out there and bring in those votes!  You are going to make a difference.  How do you do that?  You talk to people, put a sign in your yard, contribute money and time to your candidate even if it can only be a small amount. You knock on doors and hand out literature, but mostly you persuade people to come out and vote for your person by offering reasons why they should support him or her.

America is in decline, but can be turned around.  She is waiting on you to rescue her and the Founding Fathers would expect Americans to be patriots and sacrifice a little comfort and convenience to fight for freedom.

Have you decided on someone and are you willing to join the fight?  Great!  Now get to work because there is not much time left, and may the Lord be with you.
